Taking vows is a serious promise. It’s saying you’ll be there for your partner through thick and thin, good times and bad. But let’s be real; even the strongest couples need a little guidance now and then.
That’s where Nina Westbrook comes in. Keeping couples together is her passion. She’s been studying psychology since her college days, and for the last 20 years, she’s been giving lovebirds the tools they need to keep their bond tight and their love strong. Married to Denver Nuggets’ Russell Westbrook since 2015, she knows firsthand what it takes to make a marriage work, especially in the spotlight.
“[In] any relationship—especially a long-term relationship—there will be ups and downs, there will be different challenges,” Westbrook shares, pointing to the major transitions couples go through, like getting married, having children and children leaving the nest.
“With each of those life phases and those big transitions, we have to adapt and reinvent ourselves or change our schedule…Not only are we coming into ourselves as individuals and having to relearn our partner and what works and doesn’t work for them, and finding that homeostasis again in our relationship every single time.”
From planning romantic date nights to making sure you get some “me time” with your crew or just by yourself, Nina’s drops gems for this segment of Out the Group Chat to the questions that pop up after you say “I do.”
