My Mother’s Day Gift List and a Special Reminder


Well, mamas, it was another year filled with transition and change as we all acclimated to what many people are now calling the “new normal.” As I reflect on the year behind us, I realize how much time I spent worrying…worrying about how my kids were adjusting post-pandemic, worrying about how our family was adapting to the changing world around us, worrying about how I could make the best decisions for my family while managing all of the lingering doubts and concerns that lived in my heart and in my head. Here’s the thing – the process was by no means perfect and we still don’t have it all figured out, but every mother I know was committed to doing the very best they possibly could for their families, and that, in and of itself, is enough.

I can’t count the number of times I thought to myself, “wow, these kids are so resilient.” I watched them roll with the punches, navigating everything that got thrown their way with strength and confidence. And what I slowly began to realize is that our children are actually emulating what they’ve seen modeled around them. They don’t see the doubts and anxiety; they see our courage and our ability to persevere. They see their mothers taking on challenges, stepping up to the plate, and continually fighting for better. They see us endure every twist and turn, watching as we come through on the other side, stronger than ever before. As Mother’s Day draws near, I want to take this opportunity to remind you that it’s okay to take a little credit for all of the hard work and sacrifice that motherhood entails. No matter where you might be on your journey, you deserve to be celebrated. To the children in our lives, we are resilience embodied. We are power, grace, fortitude, and, above all, we are love. But we can’t continue to be all of these things if we aren’t taking care of ourselves, which is why I’m challenging you to make time for yourself. Not only on Mother’s Day, but every day, because we deserve it and because the loved ones in our lives are counting on us to lead the way.
